CHOW KING, TOKYO TOKYO, RED DOOR

TUKWILA (SEATTLE) - Chow King and Tokyo Tokyo
... calling all Filipino food eaters! =)
2800 Southcenter Mall, Seattle, WA, USA

So I've recently taken a trip to Tukwila, just outside of Seattle to visit the Westfield Shopping Center's new Seafood City. Included with this supermarket which reminds me of the asian supermarket, T and T, are a few well-known fast-food chains in the Philipines: Chow King, Tokyo Tokyo, Red Ribbon Bakery, and Jollybee; the last two which just opened 2 days ago. I haven't had the chance to try the bakery goods or Jollybee, but I definitely went to Chow King. Don't be surprised, the line-up for Chow King is 2-3 times as long as Tokyo Tokyo but the food is a shorter wait at Chow King - weird right?

As a first timer eating at these food chains, I loved their sphagetti, fried chicken and dessert drink halo halo. But according to the people i went to, who have been to the chains in the Philipines, it just isn't as good. However, i still think it was a great experience =) I've been told that Jollybee is the Philipino version of a Mcdonalds/Chucky Cheese - can't wait to go there in the next month. Prices for food are similar to that of a Mcdonald's Meal. Below are photos from Chow King and Tokyo Tokyo!

WEST VANCOUVER - Red Door
... calling all asian fusion cuisine lovers!
900 Main Street, West Vancouver, BC, Canada
I've gone here a few times, and I love the decor. I find it's a restaurant you can go for a drink with the girls or for a family dinner. The dishes are sharable, it's nice to have variety. Make sure to order only one of each type of meat, since i find that some of them are very very similar to one another. For an appetizer, my family shared the Calamari. Unfortunately I couldn't have any because of allergies but they seemed to enjoy it =) My favourite part was the dessert. We couldn't decide just what to get so we had the dessert trio. For $13 you can choose 3 of the 6 or 7 desserts that are offered, and they are not little samples of the dessert, they are almost the same size. I recommend the orange chocolate cake. it was amazing! really sweet, but if you have a sweet tooth, u'll love it.

FOOD TRUCKS, SALT, STONEGRILL

Hi There!
So imagine this: You're out for dinner with your friends, and the food comes. You're about to take a bite when someone suddenly says "wait! wait! let me take a picture of it first!" - seem familiar? Well - that's me! =) I've always loved taking photos, especially of food - shall we call it food for thought?

I'm starting a blog today, and i'll try to update it everytime i try something new - but of couse, I have lots of places i've visited in the past that i'll post about as well~ As a lactose intolerant girl, and one who's also allergic to seafood - my choices in cuisine may be limited - but i always dine with someone else so i'll get their input too! =)

RICHMOND Food Trucks
...calling all seafood and japanese lovers
8740 Charles Street, Richmond, BC, Canada
This was so cool! I saw photos on facebook from another friend who recently went on the hunt for the Richmond Food Trucks - There were 3 trucks (Tenku, Bakudanyaki, and fumisen) and they serve cooked food right out of the rear of their trucks! For those, like myself, who have ever wondered what a Japanese cone sushi tastes like - minus the seaweed - they give you the option of having it wrapped in a crepe! This would be a great place, not so much for a meal - unless you're a light eater but for a snack or appi =)

GASTOWN Salt
...calling all wine and cheese lovers
45 Blood Alley, Gastown, BC, Canada
So a few girlfriends and I recently visited a wine-tasting room called Salt. Honestly, we really didn't know what to expect. We weren't quite sure where this was located so we took a cab, and were dropped off at a random alleyway (photo below). It was sooo sketchy! So we made our way along the empty alley.. and found SALT. We made a reservation in the "cellar room" and walked into a seemingly normal restaurant floor. Then found out that the "cellar" was downstairs, so we walked down a creepy staircase to the basement. What seemed to be a shady location at first turned out to be amazing. The eery atmosphere of a stone basement really gave the restaurant character. With an amazing collection of wine and meats in the background, and everyone being seated cafeteria style on a picnic table, it was different - but in a good way =) This is a place i'd recommend if you want a unique experience, something modern yet you don't need to dress up.

DOWNTOWN Stonegrill
...calling out nice dinner go-getters
1661 Granville Street, Vancouver, BC, Canada
Contemporary-modern meets trendy and casual. Went here on a few occasions, once for my mom's birthday and the second for a friend's birthday. If you're a picky eater like myself, this is the place to go. Everyone loves to have their steak cooked in different ways - so why not just do it yourself? The meal can be served on a heated stone, so the raw meat/seafood will cook as you eat. If you like your meat well-well done like me, ask them to heat up a 2nd stone for you, at no extra charge - and they'll replace your cooled down stone with a new one halfway through the meal. Expect to pay $40+ for the meal at Stonegrill, but trust me it's worth it! It's right on the water-side by Granville Island and has the most amazing view - If you take your date on a special occasion, aka Valentines, they'll most likely have a fixed menu which includes dinner and dessert.
